about calcium acetate -anti hyperphosphatemic. -mechanism of action of calcium acetate -calcium acetate is used to treat hyperphosphatemia (high blood phosphate levels) in patients with kidney disease. by lowering blood phosphate levels calcium acetate can help keep your bones strong. it works by binding with phosphate from the diet which aids in its removal from the body. -indications for calcium acetate -indicated for the control of hyperphosphatemia in end stage renal failure and does not promote aluminum absorption. -interactions for calcium acetate -1.tetracycline antibiotics: concurrent administration may decrease the bioavailability of tetracyclines. -2.calcium-containing foods or preparations including dietary supplements or antacids:concurrent use may cause hypercalcemia; dietary calcium should be estimated daily initially and intake adjusted as needed. -3.digitalis glycosides:concurrent use is not recommended because calcium acetate may cause hypercalcemia
