mechanism of action of colchicine -it inhibits microtubule polymerization by binding to tubulin one of the main constituents of microtubules. this tubulin is essential to mitosis and therefore it inhibits the development of spindles as the nuclei are dividing. these results the death of rapidly proliferating cells. colchicines in gout reduce lactic acid production by leukocytes which results in a decrease in uric acid deposition and it also reduce phagocytosis with abatement of the inflammatory response. - -indications for colchicine -1. acute gout -2. gouty arthritis -3. amyloidosis -4. behet`s syndrome -5. calcium pyrophosphate deposition disease (pseudogout) -6. cirrhosis of the liver -7. familial mediterranean fever -8. pericardidtis -9. sarcoid arthritis -10. immunosuppressive agent
